We Indians are very picky about buying anything, we always tend to get more at the price of less. That’s why budget smartphones sell more than any flagship smartphone in India. Xiaomi sold more than 5 million Redmi Note 4 which is budget smartphone pricing around 10k right now.
Competition in this budget range (₹10000-₹15000) is very high among Samsung, Xiaomi, and Lenovo (also read Moto) smartphones. Budget smartphone is tricky for manufacturers because they have to provide maximum features at a minimum price to get more sells with considering profit.
Today I am going to compare some of the best budget smartphones available right now in the market and help to choose a right budget phone for you. There may be not any winner on this list because all phones have to compromise on their features to minimize the manufacturing cost but you can surely find the smartphone according to your preferences and needs.
What do we expect from Good Budget Smartphone?
A good budget should have performance that can run average games flawlessly and without any heating issues. The budget smartphone does not the quality camera but you can expect a camera that can suit your daily life photography. Also, if the phone has the metal body with these all other features it will make it the perfect budget smartphone.
Still, No budget smartphone can be the perfect smartphone because to achieve minimum selling price manufactures have to compromise on some specifications. Hence, it’s totally your call upon your usage which smartphone suits you from these three.
- Moto G5s Plus
Moto G series is the most popular budget smartphones in India. Over the years Moto gave very good budget smartphones in this line. Moto G5s plus listed on Amazon for ₹16000. Moto phones are popular because of their stock android and faster updates to next android, G5s plus running on Nougat now and will upgrade to Oreo soon.
Moto G5s plus consists 4GB RAM + 64GB inbuilt storage with Snapdragon 625 chipset and Adreno 505 GPU. Great specs and stock android make this phone really powerful for daily usage. It does have 13 MP + 13 MP dual lenses set up on the back but Image quality is not up to the hopes. The main advantage of having dual lens is that you can take photos with depth effect but the camera of this phone does not pass our expectations here.
Overall, Moto G5s plus is really powerful phones with great UI. It has the full metal body on the back and curved edges like all other moto phones. I am not the fan of curvy edges and it looks like bad design to me. Still, you can absolutely grab this one if you are not too pro about camera and want a really high-performance phone with the brand name.
- Xiaomi MI A1
After the mixed response to Android One program, Google now partnered with Xiaomi for phase 2 of Android One with Xiaomi Mi A1. Android One means this phone will have the best android version and get early android updates than most of the other phones excluding pixel devices. Mi A1 has Android Nougat 7.1.2 out of the box and will get Oreo update within this year. Another great thing about this device is that it has a stock android version that means no unnecessary bloatware on the phone and true android experience without customised UI.
Xiaomi has been always good at giving more specs at low prices and Mi A1 is at best specifications for this price. It has 4GB of RAM with 64GB internal storage. You can expand storage up to 128 GB through hybrid SIM Card/Micro-SD slot. It consists Snapdragon 625 chipset with Adreno 506 GPU which is pretty good for the performance of this phone. Mi A1 features full Metal Unibody design with FHD 5.5” IPS LCD screen. The camera of this phone is big plus point, it has 12MP Wide Angle + 12MP telephoto lenses on the back which enables 2x optical zoom and portrait mode for photography. Portrait mode is great as in iPhone 7 plus and OnePlus 5 but it is good.
Overall, this phone is pretty good in all aspects. It has got a pretty solid body and stock Android experience with best in class camera. This phone is a budget version of the pixel. You can absolutely go for this phone if you are looking for powerful and pretty and don’t have issues to buy from Chinese brand.
- Nokia 6
Nokia is back from the grave and now they want their crown back in Indian smartphone market. Nokia did not repeat the same mistake and adopted Android OS for smartphones. Nokia 6 is currently best smartphone Nokia in 15k. Nokia has walked the same path as Moto with Stock Android experience in their phones with minimum bloatware. Nokia 6 is Android Nougat out of the box and Nokia is promising for monthly security updates and Android Oreo update as soon as possible.
Nokia 6 features 3GB RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage with hybrid card support. It has Snapdragon 430 chipset with Adreno 505 GPU. Metal Unibody of this phone looks very premium and easy to hold. Nokia 6 has 16 MP PDAF and 8 MP AF front camera which are okay in performance. 5.5” FHD screen is bright enough to use this phone in daylight. This phone also has Dolby Atmos speakers which are not too loud but produces great bass.
Overall, Nokia 6 has got very good looks and feels very premium but performance wise it is not that great. This phone can be your choice if you are much of pro user and use minimum time on your phone.
These three phones are awesome in their aspects. Mi A1 is the perfect combo of specifications from these all. It got a good camera and early Android updates due Android One. Moto G5s plus is also a great phone, you just have to compromise little in camera. Other than Moto G5s Plus is a beast in performance. Nokia 6 would my last choice because of its low chipset, not that impressive camera. However, Nokia has done great work with built quality and made it beautiful. So, as I said all these phones are great and it is your call that which one suits you.
